It has a wonderful story and cast of characters, as well as an excellent and unique art style. You play Dave Lister from the cult TV show Red Dwarf as he goes on an adventure in the past to find a time machine and save his best friend from being killed. The game has a great balance of humour, with many pop culture references thrown in for good measure.

Lair of the Clockwork God

Following up their greatest hit comes the third game in the series: Lair of the Clockwork God. This time, you play as a policeman in the Victorian era, who gets his brain swapped with a cat and travels to the Middle Ages to retrieve it. The game has a very different atmosphere than the first one, being a little darker, although still being genuinely funny. The only real problem with this game is that it’s quite short, but then again so is the original.

The plot is more fleshed out and there is more of a range of abilities, but otherwise, if you’ve played the first game you should be able to play this one without much trouble.

Ben There, Dan That!

Size Five Games is best known for its point-and-click adventure games. It was originally released in 2008 and was later remastered and re-released in 2016 on Steam. The game follows the adventures of Ben and Dan, two British friends who happen upon a mystical portal to the weird world of Malum. In Malum, they must save their friend Alice from the evil alien Pladrim by solving puzzles and getting past obstacles, while also getting chased by weird creatures and alien beings.

The game features some very odd dialogue, (which has been criticised by some), but it’s still fun to play. The puzzles are well constructed and will keep you busy for quite a while. The Steam version also had a few puzzles that were too easy, which is disappointing for a puzzle game. The graphics are pretty simplistic, but I can’t fault them for it. It’s a puzzle game, not a first-person shooter.

Stacking

“Stacking” is a quirky puzzle game that was developed by Size Five – formerly Zombie Cow. The objective of the game is to stack objects on top of each other and create the tallest structure possible. The catch is that you can only stack objects that are smaller than the one below them. This creates a unique challenge as you must carefully consider which object to place where to create a stable structure. The gameplay is surprisingly addictive and there is a good amount of variety in terms of the different objects that you can stack.

As you progress further into the game, you will unlock different types of objects to stack. Each object can be upgraded in terms of its “stickiness” and the rate at which new objects fall down the stack. This creates a good balance between having to carefully plan each move while also taking into account the time that you have left on the clock. While we enjoyed my time with “Stacking”, we feel that it could have benefited from a few more modes and leaderboards.

“Gun Monkeys may not be the most popular game out there, but it’s one of the best. It’s a unique and challenging experience that will keep you coming back for more. The controls are easy to learn but difficult to master, and the gameplay is both strategic and fast-paced. There’s a reason this game is considered one of the best.
