Thanks Dan! Looks like it'll be a busy day for me :) The inglorious side of being a one man show I suppose...

And yet utterly realistic.

Publishers have whole teams of people doing this 9-to-5. Also, you are competing against sensationalist guff like "ZOMG! LittleBigPlanet had a slightly offensive song!", on a day to day basis. Canvas everyone and hope to fuckery that some of them use it. Dan's list of people/sites to canvas is an excellent starting point.

You could also get in touch with some language schools/translators and get your press release translated into as many languages as you can afford, and then send those off to all applicable gamer sites in them there weird foreign places.

Getting a foreign press release. Would it not help if the game itself was translated first, otherwise you're basically emailing foreign gaming sites going "HA! Here's a game that most of you will barely understand at best!"?

Also, without any knowledge of spanish, french et cetera, how would anyone know the translation is what you're looking for? For example, where you say "retro", the translator might make a best guess and say "outdated". Same idea, different connotations.

You're not taking into account the vast number of people who speak English perfectly well, but only frequent sites written in their native tongue.

It's virtually impossible to find a European who didn't become fluent in English at junior school. This is about getting your message onto sites that they will actually read.

Wytches Brew could be translated - it was designed that way from the start. My sister-in-law is fluent in French and Italian, so in theory I could get those translations done on the cheap (and I can trust her not to sneak in any profanity ;) ).

We'll see if it's worth it though...

GamesPress was a good call. They've put out my press release and it is being picked up by their associates (found it on GamaSutra first).

I can't think why it wouldn't be worth it (especially if it's done on the cheap)? Surely if having it in another language brings in just a few more sales, that's still more sales overall.

Also, I noted the "royal we" on the press release. I always thought that it was just yourself.

There's always the issue of trying to offer customer support in a language I don't speak... But I'm not ruling it out.

Yes, NotSoft is just me, but I like to give the impression that it is more than a one man show. The "we" is myself and the company ;)
